Who are we?

We are a group of Christians from a variety of backgrounds, united by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and a desire to share that faith with others.

We are not of any particular denomination, although we are clearly in the mainstream of Christian belief.

What we believe

We believe the fundamental truths of the historical Christian faith:

  • that the Bible is the inspired Word of God, the final authority in all matters of belief and practice.
  • that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He became a man, died for our sins, rose again, ascended into Heaven and will one day personally return.
  • that forgiveness of sin and eternal life are granted by God to all those who repent and exercise faith in Jesus Christ.
  • that the Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity and indwells and enables each believer in the Lord Jesus Christ.

What we practice

We observe the remembrance of Christ's work on the cross in the 'Breaking of Bread' every Sunday (the Lord's Supper or Communion).

We believe in the power of prayer and so we meet as a fellowship for prayer.

We believe that the Bible is God's Word to us so we meet as a fellowship to study the Bible.

We believe that God is worthy of our praise and so we meet as a fellowship to offer our worship and praise to God.

We believe that baptism by immersion in water in obedience to Christ's command is for believers only.

How the church is run

There is simplicity of organisation with an emphasis on participation by those within the fellowship.

Many share the responsibility for preaching, teaching and visiting. The leadership is exercised by a group of elders chosen by the fellowship.  There is no full-time minister.

The church is independent, self-governing and self-financing, and maintains friendly contacts with other similar groups of Christians and other Christians in Ulverston.

A fuller statement of belief is available on request.
